Being freelance or a self-producing artist can be hugely creative and exciting, but we also understand that it comes with its challenges and that sometimes having someone else to chat through ideas with, or ask advice from can be really valuable, especially if you aren’t able to welcome a Producer or Dramaturgy on board full time.

Throughout the year Kirsty Somerville (Head of Professional Programmes) will be here to help with any producing questions or issues that you may have, from chatting through ideas for new projects to providing practical help and support for planning and fundraising.
Please approach us with any questions and queries you have and we will work to support you in the best way we can, either by providing written feedback, meeting with you or connecting you with another organisation in Scotland who may be able to provide further support and advice. Kirsty Somerville (she/her) is the Head of Professional Programmes at Dance Base. With over 10 years' experience of working in festivals and artist development, Kirsty manages and delivers our Professional Programme of activity which covers everything from our termly residency programme to our support strands for emerging and established artists. She also produces our annual Fringe Festival each August with brings local and international artists to the Dance Base building. During her career, Kirsty has worked with organisations inlcuding Auckland Arts Festival, Christchurch Arts Festival, Cryptic and Take One Action Film Festival, and recently completed training to be an Accredited Coach with Relational Dynamics 1st.
Kirsty is passionate about the power of vibrant and creative storytelling, whether that is through dance, film, theatre or visual art, and is dedicated to helping bring these stories to the stage.
